One of the graduates of the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya), Muji Burrohman, Faculty of Engineering, Electrical Engineering Study Program, successfully graduated thanks to research on the design of an oil-free fryer system (air fryer system) with digital control based on a microcontroller.
The graduate from Surabaya said that the innovation he made started from an analysis of the high price of frying pans that could not be reached by all groups. In addition, the way it is fried has a high calorie and fat content, which if consumed in excess can cause health problems such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
Muji explained that the Air fryer he made is an electronic device used to cook food using air and does not require oil at all.
"Frying without oil (air fryer system) has a way of working by utilizing hot air circulation from the heater and 3 mechanical fans in the appliance which can reach approximately 200 degrees Celsius," said Muji Saturday (29/10/22)
He explained that high heat temperatures circulate hot air around the food and the result will make the food evaporate, so that the food automatically cooks. Thanks to the combination of a concentrated heat source and the strong rotation of the fan on the air fryer, the appliance is capable of producing a crunchy texture.
With the help of the Arduino microcontroller as a link between the sensor and other components, the sensor here acts as a control to regulate the heat in the air fryer. The component in question is a temperature dimmer (up/down temperature regulator), LCD as a value output display.
Muji hopes that the research conducted will become a healthier solution option in choosing the frying method.
He also hopes that the research conducted does not end here and can continue to be developed and useful for the wider community.
