Representing Indonesia, 3 UM Surabaya Athletes Contribute 7 Medals at the 2022 ASEAN University Games

Three proud athletes of the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) Kharisma Ragil Rakasiwi (management), Rahmad Adi Mulyono (management) and Fathur Roji (management) successfully represented Indonesia and contributed 7 medals in the ASEAN University Games (AUG) held at Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand on Sunday (31/7/22)

The ASEAN University Games is an international championship which starts from 24 July to 7 August 2022, is a biennial sporting agenda involving athletes from universities from ASEAN member countries with 23 sports being contested.

Kharisma Ragil Rakasiwi, an athlete from the Sports Branch (Sports) rock climbing won the women's individual lead gold medal and the women's individual boulder silver medal against Thailand.

Fathur Roji who is also from the Rock Climbing Sports Branch also won three medals including; speed relay team gold medal, men's individual boulder gold medal and men's individual lead bronze medal against Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Meanwhile, Rahmad Adi Mulyono won the speed relay team gold medal and the men's individual speed bronze medal against Thailand.

Rahmad Adi, the athlete who earned the nickname Spiderman of East Java, explained that he and his team had prepared for the championship 2 weeks before.

"Incidentally we practiced in different cities, I trained in Bekasi, Roji in Surabaya and Ragil in Gresik," said Adi on Tuesday (2/8/22)

Adi again said that in the near future he would also take part in the IFSC World Cup Jakarta championship in September 2022.

"In the future I will focus on the target of winning the 2024 Olympic Gold in Paris, the 2023 Olympic Qualification, the 2022, 2023, 2024 World Cup Series and the 2023 Asian Games in China," explained the athlete scholarship student.

Adi also asked for support from all Indonesian people so that the championships that will be participated in will bring Indonesia's good name on the world stage.

"I really thank the university for continuing to support and fully support the activities of student athletes, both national and international championships," he said.

Meanwhile, Junaidi Fery Efendi Head of the Alumni and Innovation Student Administration Bureau (BAKAI) explained that this is not the first time these 3 athletes have won international competitions.

“Adi, Roji and Ragil are student athlete scholarship recipients who never stop making achievements. They not only represented East Java, but he represented Indonesia and managed to contribute 7 medals at once," said Junaidi when met in his room.

Junaidi also stressed that the free education given to athletes was an appreciation and commitment of UM Surabaya in realizing and advancing sports achievements in East Java and Indonesia.
