University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) is proud of the achievements made by student athletes at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) week which was held in Ubon Ratchathani from 24 July to 7 August 2022 and the 2021 Pro Futsal League.
ASEAN University Games is an international championship which is a biennial sports agenda involving athletes from universities of ASEAN member countries with 23 sports being contested.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Futsal League, or better known as the Pro Futsal League, is the highest futsal caste competition in the country.
As a form of appreciation to student athletes who have struggled and competed in the ASEAN University Games and Pro Futsal League 2021, the Chancellor of UM Surabaya Sukadiono and the leadership welcomed them home while giving prizes to the winners in the form of cash at the At-Tauhid Tower Building, Friday ( 19/8/22)
Suko congratulated and thanked all the student athletes who had participated and fought to give their best at the ASEAN Games and the 2021 Pro Futsal League.
"This is the university's commitment to supporting student activities and achievements not only in the academic field, but also in non-academic fields. In the ASEAN University Games 3 athletes managed to contribute 7 medals at once," said Suko proudly.
According to his explanation, rock climbing athlete Kharisma Ragil Rakasiwi won the women's individual lead gold medal and the women's individual boulder silver medal against Thailand.
Fathur Roji who is also a rock climbing athlete won three medals including; speed relay team gold medal, men's individual boulder gold medal and men's individual lead bronze medal against Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
And Rahmad Adi Mulyono won the speed relay team gold medal and the men's individual speed bronze medal against Thailand.
Meanwhile, in the 2021 Pro Futsal League competition, two students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Samuel Eko Putra Tampubolon and Aditya Muhammad won the prestigious title, namely the 2021 Professional Futsal League Champion.
"Samuel Eko is the pride of the Indonesian Futsal National Team (Timnas) and Aditya Muhammad is the pride of the Suroboyo children's futsal team," he said.
Suko emphasized that in the future the university will continue to provide full support for students who have talent and interest in non-academic fields, especially sports.
"We want students to not only grow in academic aspects, but also in non-academic aspects, therefore UM Surabaya appreciates student achievements in non-academic fields in the form of scholarships every year," he concluded.
