UM Surabaya Borong Champion in the 2021 Ministry of Education and Culture Service Program

UM Surabaya won three categories of champions in the Ministry of Education and Culture's Holistic Village Development and Empowerment Program (PHP2D) event 2021 on December 6 2021. The categories won were 2nd place in the Ormawa category, 3rd place in the Advisory Lecturer category and Favorite Champion in the Ormawa category. UM Surabaya, represented by the Student Association (HIMA) of the Syari'ah Banking Study Program, succeeded in buying up many categories through the Sharia Financial Smart Village program in Tempurejo with Syari'ah Financial Management Innovation.

Arin Setyowati, HIMA Supervisor for Islamic Banking Study Program expressed his pride for the achievements of his guidance students to win in three categories. According to him, this program is very right on target by looking at the condition of villages that lack knowledge about Islamic finance.

"The reason for choosing Tempurejo was because one of the student team members came from this area, so that the community knew very little about Islamic financial literacy, which was further strengthened by the results of observations in the community where there were no Islamic financial institutions in the area. This program is also our da'wah to increase Islamic financial literacy in society," said Arin in a written statement (7/12/2021).

Furthermore, Arin explained that the effort to make Tempurejo Village a syari'ah financial smart village was through training in managing family financial patterns and sharia-based businesses through recording syari'ah and starting to establish syari'ah cooperatives.

"Hopefully we can proceed to the advanced service program (P3D) stage so that we can continue and develop our community service program, especially in Tempurejo. Of course this requires a lot of energy, so hopefully internally, our team will be more solid," he concluded.

Toat Setiawan, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) appreciated the achievements that have been achieved by HIMA Islamic Banking because it received three categories at once.

"This achievement proves that UM Surabaya has succeeded in becoming a pioneer of change which benefits are felt. It is hoped that this activity can become an inspiration to serve the country and further foster a spirit of service. Not only that, through this program we can also give birth to young empowerers so they can respond to global challenges," said Toat.
