To Increase Research and Industrial Projects, UM Surabaya Collaborates with Malaysia's Petronas University of Technology

University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya through the Ministry of Education and Culture International Credit Transfer (ICT) program has collaborated in research and industrial projects with Universiti Teknologi Petronas Malaysia, since last August 2021.

Every week, students of the Marine Engineering study program make projects and provide counseling through online media (Microsoft team) to discuss research research. In this research project, students have the opportunity to have direct discussions with lecturers at the Petronas University of Technology.

Carrol Ng Cheng Yee as senior Lecturer in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department from Universiti Teknologi Petronas Malaysia said "This project will carry a new renewable energy theme in the form of hydrokinetic turbines which will be tested to find out whether hydrokinetic turbine renewable energy can be applied to river environmental conditions in Indonesia. ” said Carroll

Topics and objectives of this industrial research project will be presented to students and discussed together. The problem to be solved is the high use of electrical energy from materials that are not environmentally friendly, so that renewable energy can be an alternative solution.

This industrial research and project has been running from August to December 2021, to be precise on the Pemali river, Tegal, Central Java as a case study location and involved Betty Ariani, as a lecturer in the Naval Architecture Study Program as a supervisor in the research.

Dimas Sholahudin, a student of the 2018 Marine Engineering Study Program, made the research and industry project his final college assignment. He also hopes that this student exchange program and industrial research project can continue. he said. (Editor: Faiz Azmi)
