Dosen UM Surabaya Achmad Hariri (Humas)

Since he was a child he has carried stones, Hariri is now a lecturer and deputy dean

No one thought that the life of Achmad Hariri, a lecturer and deputy dean of the Faculty of Law, UM Surabaya, could change drastically. The wheel of fate turns for this man from Karduluk, Sumenep, East Java. Behind his current success story, it seems that Hariri has had a bitter journey in life that is worthy of being an inspiration to many people.

Apparently when he was in elementary school (SD), Hariri could not play freely like other children his age. Hariri became a rock-bearer at a relatively young age. He collects the stones from the moor, to be transported back and forth to the side of the main road until he reaches one pick-up and is only given a salary of thirty thousand.

Not only being a rock bearer, when he was still in elementary school Hariri also worked at the school as a key holder, this required him to leave early in the morning and come home late. Thanks to that work he was paid twenty-five thousand per month.

Because I didn't focus on studying, I didn't go to class for two years in a row, I was also down at that time," Hariri said Monday (20/2/23)

Hariri said his parents only worked as farm laborers and worked as mat craftsmen. In fact, he admitted that when he was in elementary school (SD), he never wore shoes.

It seems that when he continued his studies at the SMP Hariri level, he did not go to another grade because his memorization skills were below average. After a year of not going to class, the unique thing is that he even entered the top 3 at school when he entered grade 3.

Because at that time I felt that the lessons and memorization that were being taught were just repeating from the previous year, so it was easier for me to remember," Hariri added.

When he was in junior high school he still worked, namely by helping as a mat and furniture craftsman, he did this until high school.

However, after graduating from high school, his desire to go to college was not supported by his parents due to financial factors. Apart from that, he said that in the village where he lived, there were no children who continued studying outside Madura. Because of this, he decided to migrate to Surabaya to work.

When he decided to migrate, Hariri was sure he could improve his fate. Armed with a piece of gold that costs not even five hundred thousand, Hariri went to Surabaya. Even terbesit intention to offer writing in the form of song lyrics to the producer. But then Hariri decided to work while studying.

Had become Marbot of the Mosque to be able to eat

Hariri became a student at the Faculty of Law at UM Surabaya, in semesters 1 and 2 he received a scholarship from UM Surabaya thanks to information from a friend. However, the scholarship is only up to semester 2, so it requires him to work so he can continue his studies.

When he arrived in Surabaya, he did not have a place to live, he lived with a student he had just met until he was involved in Ordik activities. Because he felt uncomfortable living in a place to stay, he finally decided to live in the campus mosque.

While living in the mosque, I became a marbot. Thank God, it's a blessing to live in a mosque, often to get free meals," recalled Hariri.

After living in the mosque for a long time, he decided to move to Sekret. To survive, he had time to sell ice by selling coffee on the floor by using a cart. And even then not his own, he joined his senior class. He sold coffee for up to one and a half years.

When he entered semester 4 until he graduated, his life began to improve because of his expertise in writing so that the Student Creativity Program (PKM) that he wrote always passed and was funded by the government. Thanks to that he was able to pay for college and send his family some money in the village.

Towards graduation, he used the savings from writing gifts to buy a cow, hoping the cow gave birth and could help with the cost of his final project and graduation. After graduating, apart from working he also continued his postgraduate studies majoring in law.

Becoming a Lecturer at UM Surabaya and Generating Dozens of Funded Research

Now when he becomes a Lecturer at UM Surabaya, his contribution in the academic field cannot be doubted. Hariri has published dozens of studies and dozens of grants from the government. Not only that, behind his current success story, he does not forget where he came from, some of the research he has done always raises the village where he was born.

Several times I took research on the Karduluk Sumenep Madura East Java furniture business. The aim was to increase quality and quantity in the hope that product quality would be acceptable to the global community," said Hariri.

He hopes that the research conducted will be able to organize administration and management systems so that they can support market expansion and have an impact on the people's economy, especially Karduluk.

As an expert in constitutional law, now his writings and ideas are easy to find in journals and local and national mass mediational.
