One of the students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) Kharisma Ragil Rakasiwi is known as a rock climbing athlete for the Indonesian national team. This girl who was born in Gresik, East Java, is a 7th semester student who received an athlete scholarship who studied at UM Surabaya Management Study Program (Prodi).
To the editor of UM Surabaya, the girl who is usually called Ragil told about her career journey in the world of rock climbing. According to him, Ragil has been pursuing rock climbing since he was in elementary school when he was 8 years old. The first time he got a medal was when he was in grade 2 in elementary school and won a medal at the Gresik Regency rock climbing championship. Ragil is a rock climbing athlete who specializes in height and difficulty.
Despite her simplicity, it seems that the daughter of the couple Sulikhan and Sri Utaminingsih does not hesitate to help her parents sell roasted corn every day. She has been helping selling activities since she was in elementary school until now.
"So it just so happened that since I was little I practiced at the Rockhobbies Center which is open to the public and it's close to where my parents sell it. So after the training, I immediately helped sell corn," said Ragil, Friday (21/10/22)
Ragil admits that since he was little he had no dream of becoming an athlete. Activities in Rockhobbies he calls playing while helping sell. Apparently this accident led him to become an athlete who is known on the international stage.
Since his talent has become more visible, he has been practicing more and more. This was also thanks to the encouragement of his older brother who is also an athlete who inspired him.
List of Ragil Achievements at the National to International Level
At the 2019 East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) Ragil successfully won 6 gold for Gresik. So that he gets a total prize or bonus of hundreds of millions of rupiah.
While at the 2021 Provincial Championship (Kejurprov), Ragil managed to win three champions at once, namely 2nd place in women's general boulder, 2nd place in women's general lead and 3rd place in Women's Combine.
Ragil's name soared higher at the XX Papua PON event in 2021. He won the women's team lead gold medal, individual boulder silver medal and women's team boulder silver medal.
“PON is always interesting to remember, because at that time I had to compete with my older sister, Fitria Hartani, who is also a rock climbing athlete. You got gold, I got silver," recalled Ragil.
Even though they are brothers, for Ragil, competition is a competition, so we have to fight together.
In 2022, at the 20th Asean University Games International Championship Thailand, Ragil won the women's individual lead gold medal and the women's individual boulder silver medal.
"In the near future I am preparing for the National Senior Championships in Bangka Belitung in December, please pray that I will return with another gold medal," he explained.
Focus on Purpose is Key
Apparently behind his success as an athlete, apart from supporting his family and coaches, focusing on goals is the key for him to continue to process and move on. According to him, it was from his family that he was taught to be resilient and independent since childhood.
"Starting to learn responsibility, the importance of dividing time, self-confidence, discipline and that's what I think is very influential for my life right now," said Ragil.
Meanwhile Ragil said that focusing on goals keeps him motivated to always be persistent and never give up and try to make it happen.
"When I focus on a goal it makes me act concretely, because I believe and have faith in the positive direction I want," concluded Ragil.
