The proud player of the Indonesian Futsal National Team (Timnas) Samuel Eko Putra Tampubolon officially registered to study at UM Surabaya and received a full scholarship through the athlete scholarship route. The futsal player from Pontianak, West Kalimantan, took the Management Study Program.
Samuel registered at UM Surabaya on Tuesday (7/6/22) in building A, floor 1 at the New Student Admissions Information Institute (LIPMB). Like student applicants in general, Samuel filled out the registration online, took a written test and collected the required files.
The player born in 1998 who plays the pivot position calls UM Surabaya a campus for athletes. Because the various athletes are here.
"I am happy to hear information from the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) that there are universities that are opening scholarship pathways for athletes. Even providing scholarships in full starting from forms, education funds to building money. Of course this is UM Surabaya's big concern for all athletes in Indonesia," said Samuel.
Samuel also explained that apart from being a professional futsal player, he also had aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur.
"Thankfully at UM Surabaya there is the major I'm looking for. Faculty of Economics Management Study Program, I hope this can support me in the future in seeking knowledge and increasing my own capacity," he added.
Samuel also hopes that he will be able to balance between lectures and practice schedules. So that what he targeted both of them were able to achieve well.
Meanwhile, UM Surabaya Chancellor Sukadiono explained, this is the fourth year that UM Surabaya has opened athlete scholarships. This means that UM Surabaya is consistent every year.
"Yesterday there were athletes from Persebaya, today there are athletes from the National Team. Of course, the more athletes who study at UM Surabaya, the better. Because the university is very open to any athlete who wants to study at UM Surabaya," explained Suko.
According to Suko, the educational scholarship program given to athletes will greatly help the lives of athletes when they are no longer active. So athletes can continue their career even though they are no longer competing.
“Athletes have a big role in making the Indonesian nation proud. So that educational attention needs to be sought so that in the future athletes can live prosperously and excel in other fields after they are no longer athletes," he said.
