The Chancellor of UM Surabaya Gives Awards to 9 Lecturers Dedicated to Muhammadiyah and Mustad'afin

University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) gave awards to 9 lecturers who were dedicated to research regarding Muhammadiyah and Mustad'afin issues. The award was given by the Chancellor of UM Surabaya at the 48th Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah Pre-Conference Seminar at the At-Tauhid Tower Building Thursday (31/3/22)

The nine lecturers who received the award include Arin Setyowati, Satria Unggul Wicaksana, Idham Choliq, Arfan Mu'ammar, Pipit Festi Wilianarti, Aristiana Prihatining Rahayu, Gina Noor Djalilah, Fitri Nuraini, and Dewi Ilma Antawati.

"Through this award I hope that the 9 lecturers who have dedicated themselves to research and Muhammadiyah issues can be followed by other lecturers and can encourage UM Surabaya's contribution to problems that are very complex for Indonesia," said Suko.

Arin Setyowati, one of the lecturers who received the award, explained that the research was related to the economic empowerment carried out by Muhammadiyah in assisting sex workers to become former prostitutes in Krembangan Dupak Bangunsari and Tambak Asri.

"From this research, I developed it into a prototype of Muhammadiyah da'wah best practices for the issue of prostitution, starting with religious, health and economic assistance," explained Arin when met.

Furthermore, Arin developed other research themes with a different analytical knife to explore the study of women sex workers including the perspective of maqashid sharia, gender studies and other themes and followed up with community service programs with the help of production tools in the form of washing machines so that it becomes an effort to replace their income. to survive and not be trapped again in the world of prostitution.

"My hope is that through UM Surabaya's attention to research on marginalized people, it will trigger lecturers and other researchers to pay attention to research and dedication to issues related to women, children, the disabled, the elderly, LGBT and so on.
