Winning 7 Medals in Various Sports Branches, UM Surabaya Maintains the Champion Tradition

UM Surabaya athletes never stop achieving. 7 UM Surabaya athletes won 7 medals in the 2021 Provincial Championship (3/12/21). Hundreds of athletes from various regions in East Java took part in the sports championship which was held at the Widya Kartika building.

M Galang Eka Saputra in the Sambo sport won 1st place in combat 21-84 kg so he was named the son of the 2021 Sambo Provincial Champion. Not only that, Galang also won 2nd place in the Judo sport. Kautsar Rafi Sayyidan in the Hockey category won 2nd place in the indoor category, Febrian Bimantara in the rock climbing category won 1st place in the men's junior world speed record category. While the 3 champions from the Jujitsu sport were won by Nahrisyah, Aisa Putri Rahmawati and M Faisal Hasim.

These seven students were quite proud, even though with minimal training due to the pandemic conditions, all of them were successful and came home with medals that made the university proud

"From 1st place I don't want to be complacent, I want to defend as much as possible, I hope this champion will be a motivational booster to continue to excel as well as a provision for the upcoming Porprov VII. I hope that the campus will continue to facilitate every competition that will be participated in at the national and international levels," said Galang in a written statement.

Galang also added that he had prepared the closest championship event to be participated in including; Jiujitsu Open National Unesa Cup 10 December 2021, Surabaya City Koni Cup and East Java Kurash Provincial Championship.

Junaidy Fery Effendi Head of Student Affairs and Innovation Bureau (BAKAI) UM Surabaya appreciated the achievements of the 7 students who received this athlete scholarship.

"The seven students who received this athlete scholarship proved extraordinary achievements, they managed to bring 7 medals home, this is a real contribution because they have made the university proud at the provincial level. Hopefully this is a good start, we should appreciate the achievements at the provincial level and support them so that the achievements that have been achieved do not stop here," said Junaidy with emotion.

Junaidy also added that this provincial championship is a prestigious championship. A great pride for the university. UM Surabaya athletes won 7 medals in different sports championships. The university will continue to accompany these outstanding athletes to prepare Porprov VII to get better results.
