Rahmad Adi Mulyono is known as a rock climbing athlete for the Indonesian national team who was born in Surabaya, East Java on October 31, 2000. Currently he is turning 22 years old this coming October. Rahmad Adi, a semester 6 student who received an athlete scholarship, is studying at the Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya (UM Surabaya) Management Study Program and is Muslim.
Rahmad Adi Mulyono or who is familiarly called Adi has been doing rock climbing since he was in 6th grade. He is a member of the Life Sport Climbing club in Surabaya. His specialty is speed wall climbing.
To the editor of UM Surabaya, Adi explained that the first time he did climbing was when he was in 6th grade in 2010. The first time he joined an extracurricular activity at SDN 1 Mulyorejo. After pursuing some training, he was interested in joining the competition.
"At that time I was unlucky, because my parents did not support my departure, so the group left me. Luckily, at the end of the year 2013-2014 there was a Koni Cup competition in the speed classic category and that was the first time I won 3rd place," Adi explained Friday (3/6/22)
Adi's name skyrocketed when he won the National Age Group Championship in 2015. After that, the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) entrusted him to appear at the 2017 Asian Youth Championship in Singapore. However, Adi did not get the maximum results at that time.
Targeting Achievements at Asen Games Paris 2024
Adi, who is a UM Surabaya athlete scholarship recipient, has shown his achievements both nationally and internationally. He managed to prove this in 2019 when he won a bronze medal for the individual number and a gold medal for the team number at the Asian Youth Championship. Not only that, in 2019 he also won the bronze medal in the Men's Speed Junior IFSC Youth World Championships in Arco, Italy.
The man who is familiarly called Adi shared his experience when he was invited by the Mayor of Surabaya Tri Risma Harini with other athletes at the official residence in 2019. Initially he was called from the center along with five other rock climbing athletes to represent Indonesia to compete in the IFSC Youth World Championships which took place in Arco, Italy. Before competing, Adi and six other athletes concentrated on training in Yogyakarta for 10 days.
"A total of six rock climbing athletes from Indonesia who competed in Italy. While from East Java there were three people, including myself," said Adi.
At the world level championship, Adi was ranked third after winning with a time of 5.979 seconds, compared to 8.717 seconds from rock climber from Ukraine, Y Tkach. Meanwhile, the first and second ranks were occupied by Russian athletes, namely A Nagaev and S Rukin.
“I got a bronze medal with a time of 5.97 seconds, competing with Ukraine. Meanwhile, the first and second place won by Russian athletes," he said.
It didn't stop there, in 2020 Adi won a gold medal at the IFSC Connected Speed Knockout 2020. Then in 2022 Adi won a bronze medal in the speed number in the Rock Climbing World Cup series which was held at the Jungnang Sport Climbing Stadium, Seoul South Korea.
Adi Pride, representing Indonesia, managed to beat Ludovico Fossali from Italy in the bronze medal match with a record time of 5.58 seconds.
"In the future I will focus on 2 winning targets, namely the 2022 Asian Games and the 2024 Paris Olympics," Adi explained.
He also explained that by practicing diligently he admits that he is ready to compete with his seniors so that he can continue to excel at the international level.
The key to success is the blessing and prayer of parents
According to Adi himself, the success he has achieved to this day is due to the blessings and prayers of his parents. According to him, these two things are the biggest assets. The success achieved by a child cannot be separated from the role of parents, especially their prayers.
"Yes, parents' prayers are the most efficacious. Especially a mother's prayer, because a mother's prayer for her child can penetrate the sky," Adi explained during an interview.
According to him also, the family has a very important role in supporting the growth and development of children. Adi, who comes from a simple family, feels very grateful to be born into a family that is aware of the importance of education.
“Your advice, even though I am an athlete, I must stay focused on my education. I am very grateful that UM Surabaya is here as a campus that cares about the education of athletes. I am very happy because UM Surabaya provides full scholarships, therefore I will always try to give my best," explained Adi.
Adi also explained that it was from his family that he was taught responsibility, confidence, discipline and that is what really influences him to this day.
What I always remember from Mother's message is that hard work must always be accompanied by prayer, because it will produce good results someday. Perseverance, never giving up and diligent practice is the key.
"Since I won the koni cup competition, Alhamdulillah, my family has continued to support me and has never stopped providing motivation in pursuing my dreams while still in a positive realm," he concluded.
