Indonesian speed rock climbing athlete and student of Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya (UM Surabaya) Rahmad Adi Mulyono managed to present a prize for the 78th independence of the Republic of Indonesia by winning a bronze medal at the IFSC Climbing World Championship Bern in Switzerland on Thursday (10/08) ) Swiss time.
Adi, who is a final semester student of the Management Study Program, succeeded in presenting a bronze medal at the IFSC Climbing World Championship Bern 2023 Switzerland after finishing third in the small final round with a time of 5.05 seconds, beating his opponent Rishat Khaibullin from Kazakstan who was only able to finish with a record time 7.34 seconds.
Previously, Rahmad also managed to record a fantastic time by beating his opponents from the qualifying round to the small final to fight for third place.
In the qualifying round, he managed to carve a time of 5.11 seconds. In the round of 16 finals, he again sharpened his record time of 5.04 seconds past athlete from Ukraine Yaroslav Tkach who finished with a record time of 5.25 seconds. Meanwhile in the quarter-finals, he also recorded another increase in time after successfully finishing with a time of only 4.97 seconds, beating fellow Indonesian opponent Kiromal Katibin who finished with a time of 5.05 seconds.
Adi said that in the semi-finals he had to postpone his dream of advancing to the finals and at the same time ensure that he could not participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics after losing to his rival from Italy, Mateo Zurloni, after only being able to finish with a time of 8.01 seconds. However, in the small final round he was able to win third place after defeating Rishat Khaibubullin.
"Even so, I'm still grateful. I offer this achievement at the IFSC Climbing World Championship Bern 2023 Switzerland as a gift for the 78th independence of the Republic of Indonesia and my campus, UM Surabaya," said Adi.
He also thanked all Indonesian people, families and the UM Surabaya campus who continued to provide support.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chancellor Three of UM Surabaya Ma'ruf Sya'ban who is in charge of Human Resources and Student Affairs Innovation responded to the success of his students. Ma'ruf expressed his pride for the struggle that Rahmad Adi Mulyono had won.
"Mas Adi is the proud athlete of UM Surabaya, he has won various medals, on this occasion he won bronze, of course this has gone through a very extraordinary process, because not many students can do this, especially on the international stage," said Ma' ruf.
According to him, the university will continue to support athletes who study at UM Surabaya and compete, because they make the name of the Indonesian people proud.
"We pray together that Mas Adi can also graduate on time amidst his busy life as an athlete, because he is already in his final semester," he added.
Finally, he appealed to other athletes to continue to perform well at the regional, national and international levels.
