Rahmad Adi Mulyono, a Management Study Program student at the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) won a gold medal in the speed number at the 2023 Rock Climbing World Cup in Chamonix, France on Saturday (8/7/23) local time.
The 8th semester student who earned the nickname Spiderman of East Java managed to qualify for the men's speed final after defeating Nursamsa Raharjati. In the semifinals, Adi recorded a time of 4.97 seconds, narrowly winning over Nursamsa by 4.98 seconds. Nursamsa herself won bronze in this number.
Then in the final round Rahmad Adi Mulyono fought against the representative of Kazakhstan, Rishat Khaibullin. Adi was the best and won a gold medal after recording a time of 5.01 seconds over Khaibullin who recorded a time of 5.05 seconds.
"Thank God, I am very happy and excited because this is my first gold medal in a World Cup competition," said Adi to UM Surabaya Monday (10/7/23)
According to him, he and his team have been training and working hard in preparing for every competition, and what he is looking forward to is paying off in the World Championships.
"Thank you for the support of the family, coaches, the Indonesian team, the UM Surabaya campus and all the Indonesian people, keep praying for me," he added.
Adi really hopes to continue and get a medal at the World Championships in the next championships.
The final semester student also hopes that in the midst of his busy life today, he can finish his studies on time at UM Surabaya.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of UM Surabaya, Sukadiono greatly appreciated the achievements of the UM Surabaya athlete scholarship recipients who successfully competed and won gold at the world level.
"The World Championship event has always been a prestigious event, not only the campus is proud but also all Indonesian people, this is an achievement that the university and Indonesia are very proud of," said Suko when met in his room.
Suko added that the university would continue to support UM Surabaya athletes in national and international competitions. Suko hopes that this achievement will inspire other athletes to excel.
