The Muhammadiyah Al-Islam Study Institute (LPAIK) is one of the institutions that oversees Islam and Muhammadiyah as the identity of Muhammadiyah Higher Education (PTM).
University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) through LPAIK held a Reading and Writing Al-Qur'an (BTQ) mentoring. The activities have been carried out by UM Surabaya students from 2019 and 2020 batches from 12-19 July 2021 which were attended by 898 students from all majors.
Arin Setyowati, Head of LPAIK UM Surabaya explained the purpose of implementing BTQ was to carry out learning and fostering the reading and writing skills of UM Surabaya students as one of the additional performance indicators in student learning at Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah College (PTMA).
"This is a form of Muhammadiyah da'wah, the hope is that this program can eradicate illiteracy of the Qur'an and hopefully graduates of UM Surabaya will not only be good at reading but also correct in their makharijul letters and tajwid," said Arin.
Participants have participated in BTQ mentoring activities in accordance with the flow set by LPAIK. As for the initial activity, namely the implementation of the BTQ placement test, then participants who pass BTQ with an A grade who are declared passed have the right to become mentors for other students who have not passed.
UM Surabaya provides an opportunity to share knowledge by requiring all those with an A predicate to give their dedication through BTQ (Peer Tutor) mentoring assistance activities to other students whose scores on the placement test get a B or C predicate.
Meanwhile, students who do not qualify who get grades B and C will receive special mentoring so that students can read the Qur'an fluently, then they will be given a graduation certificate.
