Misbaqul Ulum UM Surabaya Athlete Wins Gold and Silver at Porprov VII East Java

UM Surabaya Rock Climbing Athlete Misbaqul Ulum once again made the university and Surabaya proud after winning 1 gold and 1 silver at the VII East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) on 27-29 June 2022.

Misbaqul Ulum, who is a 4th semester management student, won gold in the men's speed relay world record and silver in the men's boulder team category. Ulum managed to get a superior score against players from Gresik Regency.

Porprov VII activities were held in four districts, namely Jember, Lumajang, Situbondo and Bondowoso Regencies. Where there are 47 sports that are contested.

This event was attended by 10,151 athletes, 823 team officials, 3,512 sports officials, bringing the total attendance to 14,486.

Porprov VII East Java 2022 carries the theme "From East Java to Indonesia Towards World Achievements". From this Porprov it is hoped that new seeds with international achievements will be born

According to Ulum, he has been preparing for the Porprov championship for the last 6 months. He actively trains at the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI)

“In order to be able to compete optimally, I have prepared and have continued to train since the last 6 months. Thank God, the results are optimal," said Ulum.

Ulum, a student from Surabaya, also explained that she would always be ready if there was a call to take part in a rock climbing championship.

"My target in the future, I want to represent East Java for an international championship," he added.

He explained that in the near future he will take part in the IFSC World Cup Jakarta 2022 Rock Climbing National Circuit and the Specta Climbing Competition (SCC)

He was also grateful that during the competition at Porprov the university really gave full support, even the lecturer gave a dispensation to take part in UTS/UAS because it coincided with the time of the match.

"Thank God, I came home with 1 gold and silver. I dedicate this to my campus, which has fully supported my education for 4 years," he said again.

Meanwhile, Junaidi Fery Effendi, Head of the Alumni and Innovation Student Administration Bureau (BAKAI), expressed his pride for the achievements of student athlete scholarship recipients. He emphasized that the Porprov event is an important agenda in order to produce outstanding athletes both nationally and internationally.

"UM Surabaya athletes won 5 gold and 1 silver, of course this is a very extraordinary achievement," explained Junaidi

He is very optimistic that in the future UM Surabaya athletes will continue to increase enthusiasm, sportsmanship so that more gold will be obtained.
