Responding to Hackers Bjorka: 2035 New Students Perform Typography Art Action “Save Personal Data

As many as 2035 new students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) responded to Bjorka's hacker by sending a letter to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo regarding hopes for digital data safety in Indonesia.

The digital letter sent to the president was created through a system called Bima Aps. Bima Aps is a web-based application accessed by students to write messages of hope about personal data protection that will form typography art in the shape of the president's face.

The message was uploaded to each cellphone right at the opening of the campus environment introduction event called MOX (Mastama, Ordik and UKM Expo), Monday (26/9/22)

In the opening which was held on the UM Surabaya page, thousands of students wrote messages as well as hopes for the government and society about the importance of protecting personal data in the digital space.

Before writing the message, thousands of students watched a film as a form of education entitled 'Terror'. The terror film is a short film produced by UM Surabaya regarding hundreds of leaked student data ahead of MOX.

"This film is a form of direct social experience involving more than 100 students who were terrorized regarding hoax information ahead of MOX," said Suko.

Suko explained that the Bjorka case and leaks of public data to the government have been rife in the last one month, this needs to be taken seriously.

"Apart from being the responsibility of all parties, we must continue to promote awareness of protecting personal data in the digital space. Government policies such as the passing of the Personal Data Protection Bill are a breath of fresh air because there is a stronger legal umbrella," he said again.

Meanwhile, Khoirul Anam, Chair of MOX emphasized that MOX activities will be held on 26 September-2 October 2022 which will be free from hazing. According to him, the university will continue to prioritize creativity to collaboration and social projects that have a big impact on society.

"The social project that will be held on October 2, more than 2,000 students will join the community by providing education related to maintaining digital data security. This is in line with the MOX theme that we adopted this year, namely 'Elevate Ethics Strengthen Collaboration'," said Irul.

According to Irul, this year's MOX theme was taken in response to the situation in the last two years due to the pandemic. New students must continue to have a positive spirit ethos, as well as collaboration in solving a problem that occurs in society.
