A number of Students of the Independent Domestic Student Exchange Program (PMM-DN) at Muhamadiyah University Surabaya (UM Surabaya) carried out social contribution activities for breeders in Wonorejo, Surabaya. This UM Surabaya inbound student created a banana bigbog chopping machine for goat breeders in the area.
Sujinah, Head of the UM Surabaya Education and Learning Development Institute explained that this activity was one of the archipelago module activities that aimed to increase their sense of caring and sensitivity to the social conditions around them.
"The tool in the form of a fodder chopping machine was made by PMM-DN students, especially mechanical engineering students in collaboration with university students from origin. the form of social contribution from the archipelago module activities carried out by students participating in the PMM-DN 2021 program held by the Republic of Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Research and Technology may be useful for the development of goats and chickens carried out by the congregation of the Baitul Rahman Wonorejo mosque, especially edufarm managers, "said Sujinah in written statement (05/02/2022).
Furthermore, Sujinah added that the target partner was originally to chop the feed in the form of bamboo shoots, grass, leaves, banana peels and others manually using a sickle, with this tool to help the counting process so that it is hoped that more livestock will be kept.
Lysandra Nggadas, head of the PMM-DN group, explained that a large banana chopper is needed by breeders. In general, a banana bigbog chopping machine consists of a motor that functions as a drive, a transmission system, a casing, a frame shaft, and a chopper knife.
“The thing that must be considered in making this bigbog banana chopping machine is how to make a machine with a strong frame, sharp knife for several cuts, ergonomic, affordable price and easy to get on the market. The animal feed chopping machine or tool must function optimally according to its function and needs, which is the most important thing," said Lysandra.
Syamsul, the manager of Edufarm, said that educational institutions have a vital role for the progress of society.
"Thank you to UM Surabaya and PMM-DN students from various regions for providing extraordinary benefits to the mosque and local residents, especially for the future development of Edufarm. We hope that the good cooperation will continue with UM Surabaya, "said Syamsul.
