Maya Rafida has made another proud achievement, apart from getting cum laude at the undergraduate level, she is also cum laude at the professional level with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.81. Apparently, this woman who was born in Sumenep, Madura, East Java, also won 1st place in the University-level Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). At the national level CBT he managed to rank 6th.

Maya, her nickname, said that many medical students said the OSCE exam was one of the most difficult exams, so that certain preparations were needed before taking the exam. According to him, preparing for OSCE is best done by forming study groups with 2 or 3 friends. When asked about her own learning method, Maya admits that she applies a system of understanding not memorizing.

“Many participants fail at OSCE because they just memorize symptoms, examinations and therapy. When the OSCE questions or situation were changed, they immediately became confused,” said Maya Wednesday (15/3/23)

In her explanation, Maya also shared a number of tips for passing the OSCE with proud grades. According to him the first thing he did was practice a lot. By practicing, it will be easier for someone to recall what has been learned during the exam. He said doing exercises can be done in various ways, such as learning from YouTube videos on how to do related procedures correctly, learning from books can also help strengthen our examination and reasoning abilities.

"Don't forget to also study checklists or references referred to by the lecturer, because those will also be used as a reference for assessment," he added.

The second tip is to remember all procedures, including washing hands. As an examinee it is important to understand the checklist if there is or at least the inspection and work steps that are lege artes and in accordance with the literature. According to him, washing hands is often used as an indicator by examiners that examinees are starting to work on procedures and questions properly and correctly.

"During practice, you will understand more and more that hand washing is very important, one of which is to prevent infection from being transmitted from health workers to patients," said Maya again.

The last tip he applies is calm and confident. One of the OSCE keys that must be emphasized in particular is calm and confidence, because panic often strikes while in the exam room or when reading questions. With panic, someone will more easily forget the steps that have been rehearsed or planned beforehand. In the end, it doesn't even focus on working on the problems and conditions that are in front of us in a very short time.

Five Failed Entrance to FK

Apparently behind the achievements that have been achieved, Maya admitted that she had failed five times when she entered the Faculty of Medicine. He had been rejected by 5 campuses and had put him down, and on the 6th try he just succeeded and was accepted at UM Surabaya. His interest in the world of health has been since childhood. He admits that he really has aspirations to become a doctor and this is also supported by the support of his parents.

"So when I was little I often witnessed incidents of sick people and were treated at the health center near my house, I was always curious about the illness he was experiencing," recalls Maya.

According to him, his family background was also not that of a medical person, and that made him even more determined to enter medicine. When asked why she had to major in medicine, Maya answered that according to her being a doctor can convey a social spirit. By helping others, being an intermediary for curing illnesses will certainly bring happiness to many people. According to him, becoming a doctor will bring many benefits to others and yourself.

“I believe this profession will always be needed, no matter what the times are like. Opportunities to become doctors will always be open because many people always need their role in the world,” concluded Maya.
