University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) officially launched the opening of new student registration for the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) marked by an emphasis on the touch screen by the General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah and the Chancellor of UM Surabaya also accompanied by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Dentistry Council, Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi, Head of LLDikti Region VII East Java Dyah Sawitri and BPH UM Surabaya at the At-Tauhid Tower Building on Tuesday (2/5/23)
drg. R. Sabda Alam Sp. KGA Dean of FKG UM Surabaya in his statement explained that the future breakthrough used in the learning system for dentistry students is the use of digital dentistry in medical and research.
It is known, digital dentistry involves the use of technology or supporting devices that use computer-based or digital components. Computer-based technology enables dental practice to further improve services to patients. Digital dentistry plays a very important role in changing the manual steps of dental procedures to be more measurable, so that dentists can provide a more efficient and automated treatment process.
Encouraging the spirit of sustainable development goals 2030, drg. R. Sabda Alam believes that dental students must understand the medical world and include technology as an implementation of modern dentistry. According to him, this quality improvement is in line with the university's vision going forward to become a superior campus.
"Technological developments have had a significant impact on developments in the world of medicine including dentistry, therefore dentist candidates are needed who have the ability to adapt to the latest technological developments," said Sabda Alam.
He emphasized that in the future FKG UM Surabaya students would be equipped with this technological competence by implementing an innovative learning system to maintain and improve the quality of graduates.
Sabda Alam also said that, even though he is a new Faculty at UM Surabaya, he believes that FKG UM Surabaya will be able to play a role in providing world big data dentistry that is globally interlinked and can be traced to the fullest.
"The use of big data is intended for digital dentistry which contains all medical information such as therapy plans, medical data and records, diagnoses and so on," he added.
Of course, to achieve this, he needs support from all parties, from the government, the entire academic community to international joint research.
