As a quality tertiary institution, UM Surabaya consistently opens athlete scholarships for students who have achievements in the field of sports. This scholarship is also a form of appreciation as well as university pride for athletes throughout Indonesia.
Head of the Information Institute for New Student Admissions (LIPMB) Radius Setiyawan explained that the UM Surabaya athlete scholarship has now entered wave 2 and has been open since April 1 and closed June 26, announced on July 4.
"The awarding of this scholarship is to produce outstanding athletes who excel in the field of sports, through this scholarship, students are required to always excel both at the national and international levels," explained Radius. Tuesday (12/4/22)
According to Radius, athlete scholarship recipients are not judged by how many Grade Point Averages (GPA), but how many medals they get and what medals the scholarship recipients get.
"The output is not the high GPA you get, but how many medals graduates get, at what level, this is very important for students who focus on non-academic activities," he added.
Radius also added, if students who pass the athlete scholarship will be given a full scholarship starting from free of charge for building fees and education funds except for forms.
"The conditions are quite easy for athletes who register, first attach a recommendation letter from a credible institution, attach a championship certificate and be willing to sign a contract with the Alumni and Innovation Student Administration Bureau (BAKAI)," he said again.
Furthermore, after entering the selection process, scholarship applicants will also be carried out at the interview stage, after being declared passed students will get scholarship rights.
At the end of his statement, he added that nine scholarship recipients at UM Surabaya had proven to represent East Java competing in PON XX Papua last year.
"This proud achievement has proven that we continue to encourage athlete scholarship recipients to compete and excel at the national level and we will continue to monitor it in the future," he said.
Radius emphasized that athletes are a valuable asset for the nation, because apart from having achievements in each of the sports they are involved in, they also have a better future by pursuing higher education.
