2 University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya) Rock Climbing Athletes Moch Rizky Samudra Dewantara (FEB) and Pradeeva Adelia (FEB) won gold medals at the XVII National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) held at the University of Padang, West Sumatra 17-26 November 2022.
In this prestigious event, 2 UM Surabaya athletes did not only represent the university, but also represented East Java in rock climbing.
Pradeeva Adelia, winner of the gold medal in the lead category, said that preparations for the competition this time had been prepared from the start. Countless they prepared for two weeks to practice before jumping into competitions and competing against hundreds of athletes from various universities.
"Happy when the UM Surabaya rock climbing team came home with a champion. In addition to maximum preparation, the main weapon is focus and earnestness, persistence and continuous training," Pradeeva explained in a written statement.
Meanwhile, at the 2023 National Pomnas event which will be held in South Kalimantan, Pradeeva hopes that UM Surabaya athletes will contribute more gold.
Meanwhile Ma'ruf Sya'ban, vice chancellor three in charge of human resources and student affairs, appreciated the achievements of UM Surabaya's rock climbing athletes.
"Pomnas XVII is a prestigious event attended by hundreds of athletes from sports in Indonesia. UM Surabaya won 2 gold medals. This is a great pride for the university and East Java," explained Ma'ruf.
Ma'ruf said the university would continue to support and oversee so that these athletes excel at the national or international level and even to prepare for next year's Pomnas.
