Viral Qori'ah Disawer, UM Surabaya Lecturer: Here's the Adab of Listening to Al-Quran Recitation According to Islam

Netizens recently discussed a video of a Qori'ah (as a Muslim woman who recites the Qur'an in a melodious voice) being greeted by several congregations with money while reciting verses from the Qur'an and on stage.

In the viral video upload, the qori'ah named Ustdzah Nadia Hawasyi was killed during the commemoration of the Prophet's Birthday on October 20 2022 in the Padeglang Regency area, Banten.

From the viral video, many netizens sneered and strongly condemned the inappropriate action taken by the jama'ah to marry a qori'ah.

Apart from attracting public attention, the busyness of the case has also attracted the attention of academics to provide feedback, one of which is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) UM Surabaya M Febriyanto Firman Wijaya.

In a written statement, Ryan explained the manners of a Muslim when listening to the recitation of verses from the Koran.

According to him the first is to listen and be silent, as in the letter Al-A'raf verse 204 which means: "And when the Quran is recited, then listen and be silent, so that you will receive mercy." In the Tafsir Al-Mukhtashar interpretation of the above verse, it is explained that when the Qur'an is read, then listen to the reading carefully. Don't talk or get busy with other things, so that you get Allah's mercy.

Second, don't make noise, Allah SWT says in Surat Fusillat verse 26, "And those who disbelieve say: "Do not listen seriously to this Al-Quran and make noise about it, so that you can defeat them".

Tafsir Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah also discusses this verse which is related to the story of the leaders of the disbelievers who at that time said to their followers in Mecca:

"Do not listen to Muhammad while he is reading the Qur'an, and make noise while he is reading it, so that those who hear him are not affected and so that you can defeat his religion."

So that Allah SWT expressly condemns them and will inflict a severe punishment on the disbelievers, and in the hereafter We will repay them with a worse reward than the sins they have committed.

Third, understand the meaning of the verse that is listened to, as in Surah Al-Mu'minun: 68 "Then do they not pay attention to (Our) words, or have they come to what did not come to their ancestors before?"

"Paying attention to the words referred to in the verse is by contemplating, understanding, living, and practicing them," said Ryan Saturday (7/1/23)

Fourth, feeling increased faith when hearing it. "Indeed, those who believe are those who, when the name of Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble, and when His verses are recited, their faith increases (therefore), and only in Allah do they put their trust." (Surah Al-Anfal: 2)

Fifth, you will be given double goodness, as narrated from Abu Hurairah RA, Rasulullah SAW said: "Whoever listens to one verse from the Book of Allah, he will be written double goodness, and whoever reads it will be light on the Day of Resurrection. ” (Narrated by Ahmad)

According to Ryan, the incident of giving saweran to Qori'ah which is currently going viral is an act that is far from the etiquette of a Muslim in listening to the recitation of the Qur'an.

“ If it is indeed the intention of the congregation to give gifts to the Qori'ah then it would be better and more civilized to give them when the event is over, and if indeed it is a big event, the committee should be obliged to make event rules so that they do not go on stage according to the etiquette of a congregation. 'ah who is listening to the recitation of the Qur'an,” concluded Ryan.
