The recent viral incident that occurred at a mini market in the Sidayu Gresik area has been widely discussed. A video showing an adult man suddenly kissing a girl has been criticized by netizens as sexual harassment.

Unfortunately, the opposite response was conveyed by the Gresik Police. According to him, the incident that should have included harassment was not harassment because it did not show the perpetrator being forced to undress and the victim was not seen crying.

“This police view is an indicator that legal action against perpetrators of sexual harassment is still being ignored. It's as if the law only applies to cases of acts of sexual violence that refer to rape or obscenity," explained Tari Wednesday (29/6/22)

In fact, according to Tari, sexual harassment behavior can be the seed of an action which, if ignored, will lead to these two crimes.

Tari explained that incidents of child sexual abuse were not new and should not be underestimated. Harassment can target not only girls but also boys. So, people need to know what is called sexual abuse in children.

In a written statement, guided by the law, the definition of sexual harassment is any action that refers to behavior related to sexual desire, whether in the form of verbal or non-verbal, can be an indication of sexual violence.

The act of touching another person's body without consent can be classified as sexual harassment. In fact, the act of commenting negatively on other people's bodies is considered harassment. However, this non-consent point does not apply to children. So, any kind of action that refers to sexual desire committed to minors is considered harassment.

"Parents of victims or victims do not need to report to the police because sexual violence against children is not a complaint offense. It is obligatory for the police to take action and punish the perpetrators according to the applicable law," he said.
