Social media was shocked by the virality of dozens of female students in Lamongan who were bald by the teacher because they did not wear ciput. This was done by the English teacher who also served as Scoutmaster at SMP Negeri 1 Sukodadi Lamongan. This action was strongly protested by several parents of students, and demanded that those concerned be dishonorably dismissed.
Lecturer at the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya (UM Surabaya), Holy Ichda Wahyuni, responded to this busy case.
Holy said educating with violence is not a solution in instilling character education.
According to him, Ki Hajar Dewantara echoes the concept of humanist education, his hope is that education as its goal is to educate the nation's children, build skills and character in a way that humanizes humans.
"Times have changed, there are many approaches that can be applied to educate the character of students or children, especially in the context of teenagers," said Holy Tuesday (29/8/23)
He said, a cultural, personal approach, and with a friendly narrative, would certainly produce a more positive response as well. This is because adolescence is a time when a child needs a "cuddling" friend figure, not a figure that automatically dictates, let alone by force.
"The issue of perfection in wearing the hijab, the teacher should be able to use other methods than by cutting the hair, which of course will leave a feeling of trauma in the child," he emphasized again.
He gave an example, teachers can invite students to a private room, provide an understanding of the nature of genitalia. The teacher can also fix students' hair so that they are not visible, then give praise and appreciation, this will give a better impression. This is in line with our motto, ing garso sung tuladha ing madya mangin karso tutwuri handayani.
