Ramadan fasting has health benefits for the body because it can help remove toxins in the body. Unfortunately, not everyone can carry out fasting worship smoothly. Especially for people who have stomach problems such as stomach ulcers.

Dede Nasrullah UM Surabaya Health Expert explained that stomach ulcers were the most common problem experienced by people during the holy month of Ramadan.

"An ulcer or stomach ulcer is a symptom of a disease that often attacks the stomach due to injury or inflammation resulting in a person suffering from an ulcer feeling sick, heartburn and sore in the stomach," explained Dede Sunday (3/4/22)

Ulcer symptoms are usually characterized by pain in the stomach, nausea, bloating, and chest pain. Ulcer sufferers are synonymous with eating times which must be on time so that the disease does not recur.

"Several things that must be considered by ulcer sufferers in the month of Ramadan are first trying to stay awake, skipping sahur is a habit that is not good for health, especially for people with acute ulcer disease because the stomach is empty longer for a day until just before breaking the fast," he added .

Furthermore, consume more carbohydrates, by consuming more carbohydrates, especially at dawn, we will not feel hungry quickly. In addition, carbohydrates are also a source of energy for the body and choose carbohydrates that do not contain high starch.

Third, consume foods rich in fiber at dawn, which include brown rice, whole grains, whole wheat bread, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. It is also important to avoid fried foods. During the frying process, the fat will increase. This can trigger stomach ulcer problems and then also make stomach acid levels increase and trigger a recurrence of an ulcer.

"It's better if you just grill or steam it. If you want fried food, you should cook it yourself using a healthier oil like olive oil," he said again.

Avoid drinks that can trigger ulcers, reduce drinks that can trigger ulcers such as coffee, tea and carbonated drinks because these drinks can increase stomach acid levels. Better to consume more water.

For ulcer sufferers, try not to go to bed immediately after dawn, sleeping shortly after eating can increase the risk of acid reflux which is the main symptom of an ulcer recurrence. It is better to do some sunnah activities or worship first after eating sahur.

Furthermore, ulcer sufferers must break their fast when the time comes, ulcer sufferers are highly recommended to be on time for breaking their fast because the stomach of ulcer sufferers must be filled immediately after a day of fasting.

"Lastly, taking medicine at dawn and fasting, medicine is a solution for people with severe or acute ulcers, especially for those who are going to fast, don't forget to take medicine according to the doctor's prescription," he said.
