Betty Ariani, a lecturer at the Faculty of Marine Engineering, said that there are still many people who think that shipping majors will only work on the high seas, so she shared a number of job prospects for graduates of marine engineering that many people don't know about.

According to Betty, the first is a Ship Surveyor, in this case a person can join a Ship Classification Bureau such as BKI, American Bureau Shipping, Lloyd Register, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, as well as independent surveyors who are experts in the field of ship surveys, both routine surveys and damage surveys.

"A ship surveyor conducts tests and inspections of ship equipment and supplies related to class certification both hull and machinery for the purposes of ship charter, buying and selling and ship insurance," said Betty Monday (28/11/22)

Both Marine Project Managers. Marine engineering graduates can become experts who manage a new ship building project or repair with a support team in a shipyard such as PT. PAL, Adiluhung Sarana Segara, Orela and others.

Third, Design & Engineering Consultants (Design Engineering). Someone can become an expert in the field of ship design and design by mastering ship design according to the owner's request by considering technical, economical, environmental and safety aspects.

Fourth, Welding Inspector/Welding Engineer in the shipping or oil and gas industry. Welding Inspector is an expert whose job is to inspect the quality or Quality Control (QC) of a welding product according to specified standards such as ASME, AWS, API, or others.

The five Oil & Gas Engineers in the offshore Industry. Many offshore oil and gas companies need shipping experts to support their oil and gas industry, especially in product transportation activities. Companies such as Chevron Pacific, PT. Rig Tender and PT. Pertamina are in great need of graduates of marine engineering.

Sixth Researcher (Researcher). Graduates of maritime engineering can become experts in the fields of sea transportation research, floating buildings, shipping transportation and safety, marine pollution, to renewable energy such as floating power plants.

"As a researcher, apart from conducting research, it can be applied to education (lecturers) and training related to naval architecture," he added.

Seventh, Marine Technopreneur or working independently creates jobs in the shipping, shipping and port sectors. Someone can become an entrepreneur engaged in planning, supervising and implementing shipbuilding services such as fiber and other non-ferrous shipyards.

"A person can become an entrepreneur with the activity of buying and selling ship products and supporting services such as coating, blasting and testing services related to shipping and become an entrepreneur engaged in the transportation, shipping and port service industries," concluded Betty.
