Crowded Parents Protest to Minister of Education and Culture About Kindergarten-High School Graduation Traditions, UM Surabaya Lecturer Gives Response

For the past few days, social media has been stirred up by news of graduation in kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high school education levels. Protests by parents are in the public spotlight. A number of arguments emerged stating that graduation is only for tertiary institutions, it is feared that graduation from the Kindergarten-High School level will lose meaning.

Not only that, the rejection of this graduation was also widely considered as a waste and a burden to the parents of the students, because the parents had to spend a lot of money to organize the event.

UM Surabaya Elementary School Teacher Education Lecturer (PGSD) Holy Ichda Wahyuni spoke up. According to him, regarding the graduation procession for early childhood students, which is like the graduation of college students, he does not agree.

Holy said, it is better if retirement at an early age or Elementary School (SD) is carried out in accordance with the child's development.

"Early childhood, the feel of year-end releases should be directed at ceremonies that support the distribution of student creations. Such as dance, poetry reading, singing, these things have more benefits in growing children's self-confidence from an early age," said Holy Friday (16/6/23)

Apart from that, it is also hoped that more releases will be packaged as more intimate means for communication forums for teachers and parents of students.

Seeing the meaning of the toga as a form of graduation for students at the undergraduate level, if it is still placed on its true meaning it can actually become a value that motivates students at the PAUD, SD, SMP, and SMA levels.

“Building awareness and hope that their educational journey is still long. Stimulating the enthusiasm and fighting power of children to continue their studies at the tertiary level, "concluded Holy.
