The Academy of Health Analysts is now known as Medical Laboratory Technology (TLM). In practice, students majoring in this department will carry out laboratory tests using knowledge and methods from biomedical disciplines to assist and/or establish disease diagnosis, monitor treatment and prevent disease in humans.
Vella Rohmayani Lecturer in Medical Laboratory Technology (TLM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) UM Surabaya explained that the health laboratory as a medical support service unit is expected to be able to provide fast, thorough and accurate information about laboratory aspects of specimens/samples whose tests are carried out in the laboratory. Vella said, a health laboratory is needed for the purposes of making a diagnosis, administering treatment, evaluating treatment results, and making other decisions.
In his statement, Vella shared promising job opportunities for Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology graduates.
First, the Specimen Handling Technician. Someone working as this will carry out the planning, collection, processing, assessment and quality assessment of biological laboratory test specimens according to standard procedures that have ethical and moral values.
Second, Specimen Test Expert Technician: Someone who does this job will test biological specimens to produce appropriate laboratory diagnostic information based on standard operating procedures and technological developments with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Third, Specimen Test Result Validator: This laboratory technician will carry out laboratory quality control, as well as assess the suitability of specimen test results analytically based on Islamic values
Fourth, Supervisor: Supervisor for operational and managerial activities within the scope of laboratory service quality based on Islamic values
Fifth, Scientific Assessor and Applicant: someone who works will be a laboratory technician who plans, conducts research, prepares reports and presents research results within the scope of a medical laboratory based on morality and intellect
