In this month of Ramadan breaking the fast with fresh and sweet drinks is very popular with the public, but we need to be aware that if our body consumes too much sugar there will be an impact.
Sugar itself is categorized as a type of simple carbohydrate which is broken down into fructose, glucose, sucrose and disaccharides, where this sugar besides being sweet and delicious to consume, sugar is also a source of energy, but if all types of sugar are consumed by the human body in excess then will have a physiological effect and also affect the decline in the work function of our brain.
Chlara Yunita Prabawati Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences (UM Surabaya) explained that too much consumption of glucose type sugars such as those found in types of carbohydrate sources such as rice, flour and bread can cause the body's metabolic imbalance syndrome.
"If this is left for a long time it will lead to increased blood pressure (hypertension), insulin resistance which triggers type II diabetes mellitus, lipogenesis, retinopathy, kidney disease and other inflammatory disorders," explained Chlara Monday (11/4/22)
He explained that the function of glucose has a very important role in the human brain, because glucose will meet the energy needs of neurons in the brain through postsypnatic where this will be converted into astrocytes which serve as fuel for neurons.
When this fuel process occurs, the mechanism that occurs in the brain is releasing the hormone dopamine to the limbic system which affects a person's eating habits and stimulates the process of always being hungry. Besides that, the brain also instructs the body to produce the hormone serotonin and endocannabinoids which increase body fat storage and lead to obesity. , when obesity occurs, of course it will affect the function of the body's organs in a complex manner.
In addition, there are also signs that the body is always hungry, always thirsty, always wants to urinate, weight tends to drop drastically and blood sugar levels with laboratory values above 200 md/dl can be an indicator that we consume too much glucose which leads to Diabetes Mellitus. Good sugar levels are Blood Sugar During (GDS) / without fasting is
