Recently, there have been many cases of data leakage that have occurred in Indonesia. Because of that it is important for us to be more sensitive and protect sensitive data so that it is not spread on the internet and used by irresponsible people.
UM Surabaya Faculty of Engineering (FT) lecturer Lukman Hakim shared 5 tips on how to keep sensitive data safe and not leaked. What should be done?
According to Lukman, the first thing to do is not reveal personal data. When someone is asked to fill in personal data, avoid sharing complete and detailed personal data such as full address, ID card number, account number, credit card number, driver's license number, passport number, to the names of real parents.
“Second, avoid opening suspicious links or links. If there are suspicious links or links sent via e-mail or other social media, don't open them immediately," said Lukman Thursday (8/9/22)
This aims to avoid the possibility of phishing, wiretapping, scams, online fraud or the like.
Third, change the password regularly. To maintain data security in order to stay safe surfing the internet. Someone needs to take preventive steps, one of which is changing passwords or passwords for various accounts such as email, social media and application services such as mobile banking. Use a password that is not easy for others to guess and do it regularly.
Fourth, activate the two-step verification feature service. There are many ways to increase the security of personal data so that it is more optimal, one can do two-step verification or 2FA (Two Factor Authentication).
"Currently most social media have this feature, by activating this feature the level of security is much stronger and minimizes the risk of hacking," he added.
Fifth update personal device. When someone often uses a device that is connected to the internet network. someone is advised to always update their computer or mobile device.
“This aims to get stronger security updates and the latest system. Because the risk of software vulnerabilities allows malware to infect devices and steal data up to online accounts," he said.
