UM Surabaya Lecturer Shares Tips on Avoiding Accidents on Toll Roads

Toll roads are freeways which are currently considered quite fast and shorten distances and travel time to destinations such as hometowns. Toll roads are currently the main choice for travelers driving cars or 4-wheeled vehicles going to their respective hometowns even though the costs incurred are not small.

However, behind this convenience, travelers must pay attention to several things when driving on toll roads. Many incidents stated that the number of accidents on the toll road was quite high and resulted in minor, serious injuries and even death.

Disaster and Emergency Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) UM Surabaya Agung Wijaya explained that there are several things that need to be considered when driving on toll roads to avoid traffic accidents.

"First, check the readiness of the vehicle before using a long trip, make sure the condition of the tire pressure is up to standard, the vehicle engine is maintained, serviced regularly, and driving is not reckless," explained Agung Saturday (30/4/22)

According to Agung, in addition to paying attention to the condition of the vehicle, the driver needs to pay attention to his physical condition, a healthy lifestyle while driving can prevent or minimize traffic accidents on the toll road.

"Before driving, don't stay up late at night or drink alcohol or take drugs that have a drowsy effect. Driving in a good mood, this is related to the psychology of drivers, if you are in a bad psychological condition, you can risk reckless actions. "he added again.

According to Agung, drivers need to increase their consumption of vegetables, water and fruit, and reduce consumption of foods high in sugar and carbohydrates because this can cause drowsiness and avoid driving while consuming cigarettes because it can risk reducing focus.

"Immediately take a break if you have been active for 3-4 hours, this can lead to boredom which risks interfering with concentration while driving, stay disciplined and obey all existing regulations, write down the important numbers that are there," he added.

At the end of his statement he advised to always pray while driving.
