FAI UM Surabaya Lecturer Describes Types of Liver Disease in Islam that Need to Watch Out for

The liver is one of the organs of the human body that has important functions for the body's health, from destroying poisons in the nerves, producing protein to helping the digestive process.

In an Islamic perspective, the heart is the main thing of all human behavior, if the heart is good, the behavior will be good, but if the heart is bad, it will have bad consequences for human behavior.

Thoat Stiawan, a lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) UM Surabaya, explained that a bad heart is called a diseased heart. Liver disease is often identified with some bad traits or despicable behavior (al-akhlaq al-mazmumah). The first disease of the heart is arrogance (takabur).

“Arrogance is when a person has excessive pride in one's own abilities. He views himself highly and is reluctant to admit that there are other people who are better, “explained Thoat Friday (15/7/22)

Allah SWT really hates this trait because it is the cause of the devil's disbelief. In QS. Al-Isra verse 37 we are asked to stay away from being arrogant. "And do not walk on this earth arrogantly, for in fact you can never penetrate the earth and you will never reach as high as a mountain," (QS. Al-Isra: 37).

The second is self-admiration (ujub). Arrogance has the ujub character, which refers to the tendency to admire oneself. This habit is the root of pride in one's heart.

Rasulullah once said; "Three things lead to the brink of destruction: (1) being greedy and miserly, (2) following lust (which always invites ugliness), and ujub (awe of oneself)," (HR. Abdur Razaq).

The third is jealousy (Hasad), according to Thoat, the main sign of this disease is not being happy when you see other people happy, successful, or get more sustenance. The worst condition is when you pray for someone else's happiness to move to you. Need to understand, envy is one of the diseases that can abort the reward.

This is in line with the words of the Prophet in the hadith narrated by Abu Dawud "Beware of hasad, actually hasad erodes rewards as fire eats wood," (HR. Abu Dawud).

The fourth likes to show off (riya), this trait appears when doing good things. Be careful, behavior like this can eliminate the reward of good deeds. This is because the habit of showing off or showing off is a disease of the heart in Islam which Allah SWT does not like.

Last miser (monster). The main basis of this behavior is the feeling that what you have is still lacking. As a result, you don't want to share your sustenance with others who need it more. Even though the assets they have are more than enough to live comfortably.

In the Al-Qur'an surah Al-Imran verse 180, it is explained that those who are miserly on the Day of Resurrection must bring their wealth with them in a draping.

"According to Imam Ibnu Qoyim, there are ways to deal with liver disease, namely: first, reading the Qur'an and tadabbur (meditation). Second, diligently emptying the stomach (shaum). Third, establish the night prayer (tahajud). Fourth, humble yourself before Allah (with prayer and dhikr). Fifth, associate (associate) with pious people or take part in Islamic studies," he emphasized.
