Instant or ready-to-eat food is increasingly popular as a substitute for rice. One of them is instant noodles which are currently widely circulated, especially among teenagers as a popular food. Besides being known for being practical, instant noodles are also known for their various flavors. This shift in consumption patterns is possible because noodles can be processed easily, served practically and can meet the tastes of most people, both adults and children.
UM Surabaya Nutritionist Tri Kurniawati said that instant noodles cannot be considered as wholesome food because they do not meet the body's balanced nutritional needs. Noodles made from wheat contain large amounts of carbohydrates, but only a small amount of protein, vitamins and minerals.
"Fulfilling the nutritional needs of instant noodles can be obtained if there are additional vegetables and protein sources," said Tri Thursday (4/5/23)
On the other hand, instant noodles can also be harmful to health, this is because in one serving instant noodles generally contain high fat and sodium, but low in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Instant noodle consumption patterns have a positive effect on abdominal obesity and hypercholesterolemia.
"Instant noodle consumption of more than 2 packs a week is associated with a high increase in metabolic syndrome in women," he stressed again.
Instant noodle consumption pattern can contribute to diet. High consumption of instant noodles tends to be accompanied by high consumption of other fast food. Consumers who consume instant noodles tend to consume less fruits and vegetables.
Tri emphasized that it is better to consume no more than two packs of noodles a week and not make it a routine habit. If you want to consume instant noodles, you should add additional vegetables and protein such as eggs, chicken, meat and other protein sources.
"Be aware of the use of instant noodles which are used as a side dish or eaten only with rice. This is not recommended because it only contains carbohydrates, “concluded Tri.
