Breakfast is a meal that is often neglected for most people. There are various reasons for skipping breakfast, from not having time to not being used to having breakfast. In fact, there are many benefits of breakfast and it is important for our body.

UM Surabaya Nutritionist Tri Kurniawati explained that education regarding balanced nutrition breakfasts must continue to be encouraged, considering that breakfast is an important morning activity. Tri, who is also a Lecturer in Early Childhood Health and Nutrition, explained that breakfast can meet 15 to 30 percent of daily nutritional needs.

Breakfast is included in the General Guidelines for Balanced Nutrition submitted by the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2014.

According to Tri, the negative impact of not having breakfast is enormous, especially in the learning process at school for students because it reduces physical activity, causing obesity in adolescents and adults.

He emphasized that the difference between people who are used to having breakfast and people who are not used to having breakfast is if people who have breakfast are able to equip the body with the nutrients needed to think, work and carry out physical activity optimally after waking up in the morning.

"For school children, an adequate breakfast is proven to increase concentration and stamina in learning. For teenagers and adults, an adequate breakfast has been proven to prevent obesity,” explained Tri Monday (25/7/22)

According to him, breakfast has important benefits for the body, based on research results that breakfast is useful for providing energy to the brain, breakfast can increase work stamina, study concentration, work and study comfort, prevent constipation, hyperglycemia, dizziness and cognitive disorders and obesity.

"Delaying breakfast can cause a lack of nutrients in the body in the morning and increase the risk of malnutrition," he added.

Meanwhile, delaying breakfast will result in excessive consumption of food at other meals, especially dinner, causing obesity.

“In general, someone delays breakfast for reasons of limited time in the morning. In fact, the breakfast menu does not have to use rice. For example, by utilizing bread and milk, “he said.
